Work At Home Mom – When Child Get Sick

When you are a work at home mom, your child get sick mean you need to give your kid more tender care and you couldn’t focus on your work like usual.

My daughter – Baby Moon suddenly get high fever few days ago and the fever as high as 38.9°c when I discovered her forehead very hot. That was in Sunday noon and our family clinic was closed on Sunday. I had no choice but to quickly give her Panadol syrup before brought her to the other nearest clinic that opened on Sunday.

I was so worried she got infected with the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) because her school has a few confirmed cases. Normally HFMD starts with high fever and that’s the reason of my worried for her sudden high fever.

How do you know if your child has HFMD?
A child with HFMD usually presents with the following symptoms:

  • Fever for 2-3 days
  • Sore throat and runny nose
  • Rash (flat or raised red spots, some with blisters) on the hands (especially the palms), feet and occasionally on the buttocks, arms and legs
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Poor appetite
  • Vomiting and diarrhea
  • Tiredness and weakness

(Information from Health Promotion Board Handbook)

I had spent every minute with Baby Moon, monitored her fever and also checked her hands and feet. Luckily she recovered from the fever on the third day and seems no symptoms of HFMD.

These are some important things your house should have if you have kids at home:

Monitor the temperature time to time

As a work at home mom, when my daughter gets sick, I can take care of her without the need to apply leave from company. This is really a different feeling compared to when I was a full time working mom. I remember I worked full time when my Baby Moon get serious high fever for a week a year ago, I could only apply two days leave and was so anxious kept calling back home to check her status.

This time, I’m happy I can give her full tender care while she needs me and no need to worry about take leave and my job. Of course, I also feel lucky my internet business is on autopilot which the operation is still ongoing even though I’m not able to focus on my work like usual. The wonderful is it continues to generate me income during these few days.

Kids are very smart and clever. They know they can get more attention and accompany from parents while parents are not at work. My Baby Moon doesn’t let me on my computer but want my accompany all the time. So I have to adjust my schedule of work at home again and spend time with her when she is at home. :)

My youngest girl previously caught up high fever easily till the fever medicine didn’t work anymore. Echinacea works pretty well to boost her immune system. It is said peppermint or ginger tea can reduce fever & aches.

Hi Moon

Thanks for sharing .

Try “sponging young child with normal tap water” in bathroom . She will not like the idea and may keep crying..because of discomfort.

Keep the window open, no air con please. Try hourly use wet cloth taping on her forehead, neck..

By the way, my kids does not like the Fever sticker.. so I tried hourly sponging and it does bring down fever especially in the night time the temperature tends to rise.
