Set Your Home Business Goals and Stay Focused

If you are a work at home mom and have home based business like me, you must stay focused on your home business goals. You will find hundreds of distractions at home and that include children, family, phone calls, household chores, television and so many more. As an owner of a home based business, you must always remember your purpose in bringing your profession home.

Ask yourself these questions,

• What was your reason for wanting to own a home business?
• Was your goal to make tons of money working for yourself?
• Was your goal to work at home so that you can share in the lives of your children?

Here are some tips that will help you stay focused on your home business:

Tip 1 – Accompany your kids and adjust your working time
I have my own home distraction which is mainly from my daughter. She is very happy I’m at home and she needs my accompany a lot. Sometimes I just couldn’t get my work done even she is sitting and sharing screen with me. The thing get worse when she wants me to leave the table and do some other activities with her. Be frankly, I never scold her for not letting me to concentrate at my work at home. I always clearly know that one of the purpose for my home business is to have more time with my girl and share more in her life. But I also never forget my business goals. I need to have time management and get my work on schedule too. In this case, I will try to explain to her that I need to work at home and get my work done before I could continue to play with her for the second section. It’s working sometimes but not all the time. Therefore I need to adjust my time accordingly to get the work done.

Many moms couldn’t get concentrate on the work because of the kids and it’s very common. Only when you clearly have the business goals at your mind, you would stay focused and get your daily work schedule done. You can delay your work till the next day but it’s not good to delay till the third day.

Tip 2 – Stay at home when working time
Your home business is just like a real job. Although you have flexibility and work whenever you want, you must set the working hours. Remember, your pay is directly proportional to your productivity. Whatever your reason for going out, you must keep your reason in the forefront of your mind. If you forget your reason for starting home based business, you will need longer time to achieve your business goal and make tons of money working for yourself.

I don’t allow myself to go out during my working hours without any special reasons. Only when there are appointments or family days during weekends. I know that if I’m not following the rule, I will not be working for myself for long and will hardly achieve financial freedom.

Tip 3 – Stand firm in front of your family and friends
I believe most of home business moms have the experience that hardly get understanding from family members and friends. It’s good if can get support from family members especially the partner. However, even if you get the support from your hubby, you hardly get understanding from your other family members or friends. Many people get the blind idea that if one works from home they are not actually working. Well-meaning people may try to fill your doorway to bring advice about getting a real job. In this situation, you must stand firm and make certain your family and friends understand that when you are working, then you ARE working!

You are the only one who can stand up for you. Your friends and family will seldom be able to appreciate your dedication to your home business, unless you make the effort to make sure that they have the same respect for your business that you do.

Tip 4 – Allocation time for your email checking
I have experience that use most of my time for the email reading and replying. I get so many emails per day with different accounts and I have spent most of my time on the emails. After I’ve replied the emails, I get new emails again. Then I started to read and reply them. When I finally wanted to do other works, I found that I didn’t have much time left. This is not a good time management and I then change my handling way.

If you encounter the similar situation, I suggest you to allot one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon to handle those emails. Don’t spend too much time only handle the email and ignore your other serious work. Otherwise, you will see the decreased of productivity.

Success is within your reach, if only you can stay focused on your goals. You must decide to reach for your goals, and then, you must have the discipline necessary to reach them. In the end, the success of your home business is entirely and completely reliant upon you and the decisions that you make.
