Story by Veronica Tan – Home Based Online Business
Hi, my name is Veronica Tan BK. I would like to share my experiences on how I started out in the home based business doing internet marketing, affiliate marketing as well as network marketing and threw thousands of dollars down the drain because they all somehow did not work out for me. I was eyeing the top earners in the industry who were earning above $10,000 every single month. How were they able to earn that sort of big money and here I was spending more than what I was earning every single month? This carried on until I realized that I was doing it all wrong. I had the wrong mindset. I was a college graduate. I had a higher diploma. I was doing well in my JOB. I was heading a department of almost 200 employees. I was being head hunted. Why should I listen to the school dropouts? What could I learn from them that I could not do on my own? Plenty as it were… They were laughing all their way to the bank! I was penniless! Or almost on the verge of being so. Being egoistic was not helping me. In fact, it was slowly eating up my bank account, like an invisible monster. I was already maxed out on most of my credit cards and bleeding pretty seriously. I had a wake up call one day when my ‘minimum payment’ cheque started to bounce. I had to sit down and urgently decide what I was going to do to turn my life around. Either I stop messing around with the home based business and just concentrate on my JOB which included:-
- spending 60 – 80 hours in the office every single week,
- being at the beck & call of others,
- suffering the moods of the big bosses,
- listening to complaints every other day,
- having no time for myself, my family, let alone my friends,
- being constantly stressed by the various deadlines and
- being literally a ‘prisoner’ in my JOB
OR find a mentor(s) who can show me, guide me and lead me to the way of success! Around this time, I started reading the book “The Secrets Of The Millionaire Mind” by the best selling author T Harv Eker. If you have not read the book yet, I would strongly encourage you to pick up a copy for yourself and start reading. Also attended a seminar where T Harv Eker mentioned that “Every master was once a disaster”. It was this quote that made me realize that I could still be successful! I just had to change my paradigm. Plus the fact that Robert Kiyosaki, author of “Rich Dad Poor Dad”, another ‘must read’ book, also believed in working to learn and not working for money. Kiyosaki firmly advocated the fact that if you want to do something, you should find someone who has done it before and learn the tips of the trade from them. That got me to start searching for my mentors. I knew I wanted to be financially free. Passive residual income every month was what I seriously yearned for. I also knew that I wanted the freedom of time to spend with my loved ones as well as those less fortunate. Not forgetting to be able to travel around the world which has been my life-long passion. I realize that I have been able to be successful once I decided to ‘empty my cup’ and accept and follow the teachings of my mentors. At the same time, success also came in a shorter frame of time due to leverage. Just a word of caution though. During my journey to success, I have learnt 3 major lessons that I would like to share with you.
- Be focused
- Don’t quit
- Be coachable and take massive action

Hi,
can’t agree more with you on “mindset”, T Harv Eker’s book and wenkend seminiar MMI has brought me to another level.
However, one of the most important things i discovered is that you must acknowledge that whatever situation your are in right now,is perfectly alright with you; you must agree with your present situation and launch the next desire.
For example, if you are poor, you must agree with yourself and could talk to yourself like:
“I am poor now, I feel poor now and it is OK, and I want to be rich, I want to have more money and feel rich”

Hi Wilson,
Great to have another fans of T Harv Eker here. I have not attended any seminar of him but I have read the above “Secret of Millionaire Mind”. That’s really a great book and like what you said, it has brought me to another level too.
Hi Moon
What Harv Eker teaches is life-changing. I attended MMI twice in Singapore, it has totally changed the way I look at money.
Between my first and second MMI, my net worth increased by at least 50%, simply by just following his JARS money management system.
Although it is a very simple system in which anyone can follow, even if you have only a dollar in your bank, it is a much more profound system than what most other people realised.
How I wish I was taught the JARS system when I was younger! All parents should teach their kids this!
Anyway I did a blog post in 2007 after attending MMI, you can check it out here for more information:

Donald
Donald, have read your blog post.
If I’m not mistaken, the JARS system has been mentioned inside the “Secret of Millionaire Mind”. I read about this before and as you said, this is a very good system that should parents teach their kids..
Parents normally teach the kids to save the money but not educate them what is the purpose of saving.. investment? education? play? I remember a sentence by Harv Eker “If you save for raining day, the end you will get raining day!”..
I think I should soon to introduce this to my Baby Moon, teach her right from now the correct mindset..
I own the above book and will share it with my Baby Moon too..
Hi Moon
Yes, the JARS system is mentioned inside the book. In fact I read the book before I went for my first MMI.
During the event, they will educate us about the JARS again as well as various other activities to alter the financial blueprint we have in us. The event is an experiential one, and many things inside the book will be “drilled” into us for a more permanent effect and change.
I remember a sentence by Harv Eker “If you save for raining day, the end you will get raining day!”..
>> Yes, it’s about the law of attraction, you get what you think about the most!
I own this book too, in fact, it is sitting on my desk and I constantly pick it up and review the information in it as I see it as my financial success bible.
Donald
Hey Donald, my friend told me she even saw some parents went with their kids.. I heard many people benefit from his seminar. That’s really a great one, no doubt! But also one thing is after the event, you need to apply what you’ve learnt consistently for it to succeed..
Oh you also remember the sentence right?! I especially remember this because I hate this! I save, but the end I really get raining day! Just too bad! Haahaa..
This book is a gift from my mentor – Teddy Wu. Maybe I shouldn’t keep in too well inside my cupboard. Should just put somewhere easy for me to grab and take a look.. Haa..
Hi Moon
Yes you are right, I myself have friends who are parents who brought their kids along too after they attended the first MMI.
The good thing is that many of what Harv teaches are really practical for implementation in real-life.
The MMI is something that I have told many friends to go to. It is one of the best, if not the best seminar, that I have went to for the past 6+ years.
I bought the book for some good friends too, it is that important for their financial literacy in my opinion…hahaha
Regards
Donald
